Location

The cottage on the hill.

Kindulavig, Leverburgh.

Kindulavig comprises of a few crofters and fishermen’s cottages just outside Leverburgh.  It is an idyllic setting for a holiday cottage elevated high enough to overlook Leverburgh, but surrounded by moorland, mountains and lochs.  If your into fishing you can obtain a permit (Obbe Fishing)in the village and off you go.

Leverburgh has a community shop, also close by is the ferry service to Uist.  You can watch the boat from the cottage as it meanders across the Sound of Harris on its daily commute.  Want to visit Uist? This is possibly one of the few spots on Lewis and Harris where it’s possible to include a day trip to Uist.  This is also the harbour where Kilda Cruises depart on their trips to St.Kilda.  An island totally on the edge and a must for bird watchers and lovers of wild places.

Fancy eating out? There is a restaurant at Talla na Mara at Nisaboist called “An Traigh” providing great Scottish food plus hospitality.

The Isle of Harris Brewery, Taproom, Restaurant and Deli opened at The Pier in Leverburgh in April 2024 supplying Hebridean food and hospitality. Monday to Saturday 10am – 11pm.

The Butty Bus is situated at the pier in Leverburgh offering homemade soups, assorted hot and cold-filled rolls beverages and fish and chips at the weekend.

Sam’s Seafood Shack at Rodel specialises in shellfish, with fresh fish sourced locally at Leverburgh.

Scarista House has a restaurant offering an excellent formal dining experience with informative local knowledge of the food being served.  It’s only ten minutes drive away from the cottage

Journey time to Tarbert, the main town and ferry terminal on Harris is roughly thirty minutes but can take hours if you stop to admire the scenery.  You pass miles of white sandy beaches en-route to Berneray Cottage, the colours are more tropical than you could imagine.  No wonder it is classed as one of the world’s top ten islands.

The famous church at Rodel, St. Clements is only a few miles further down the road.  In a picturesque setting, take a picnic.  We provide the hamper, you fill it with what you like best.

The beaches are only a short drive away, take your pick, you’ll never have to fight for space! If you take the ‘Golden Road’ from Leverburgh towards Tarbert it will take you on a journey along a single track road, through tiny villages and bays that are quintessentially Hebridean.  The landscape is rugged, boulder-strewn.  No wonder it was used to depict the planet Jupiter in Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film,  2001: A Space Odyssey.  Why Golden Road?  It’s because it cost so much to build it.

Thankyou Marion and Jack. We have enjoyed a lovely stay at your beautiful cottage. Spotlessly clean and such a comfortable bed. Absolutely everything provided. Thank you so much for the Welcome pack, so kind. Great location, with amazing views from every window. Feel so lucky to have stayed at Berneray Cottage on our first visit to Harris!

My daughter and I had a fantastic week in Leverburgh at the cottage. . We travelled all over the island and we also visited the Uists on the ferry which is only 5 minutes away. The house is very comfortable and Marion is always exceptionally helpful. I would highly recommend the cottage. This is my 2nd time staying there.

We have been several times to this cottage and we love it. It has everything you’d ever need and more. The place is spotless and the beds second to none. It’s a real home from home. The fabulous Harris beaches are all nearby. We just keep going back!
